SEQUIM — Community members are invited to join the Sequim Bay Yacht Club for a complimentary presentation on the Joe Rantz Rotary Youth Fund, starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hendricks Room at John Wayne Marina, 2577 W. Sequim Bay Road.
Sequim Sunrise Rotary’s Pat McCauley and members of the Sequim High School Interact Club will discuss their fundraiser, “Row for Joe.”
The fund was conceived in 2018 by the Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club after Daniel James Brown’s best-selling “The Boys in the Boat” was published. Rantz is the central character in the book which chronicles his struggles through life in his early years in Sequim, culminating with his Olympic Games gold medal win in eight-man crew in Berlin in 1936.
The goal of the Joe Rantz Rotary Youth Fund is to create a home for Sequim’s homeless youth, the Joe Rantz Rotary Youth House. For more about the Rotary project, see joerantzrotaryyouthfund.org.
