Jim’s Pharmacy raises $846.36 for Home Fund as its annual charity of the month

PORT ANGELES — Jim’s Pharmacy employees and customers gave the Peninsula Home Fund one last shot in the arm at the end of the giving season.

In December, the pharmacy was able to raise $846.36 for the Home Fund as part of the “Shop with Loyalty and Shop Locally” program.

Linda Cameron, customer service manager for Jim’s Pharmacy, presented the check to Terry Ward, Peninsula Daily News publisher, on Tuesday.

The donation will go into the Home Fund reserves for 2016.

Each month, the pharmacy at 424 E. Second St., supports a different local charity or program.

It donates a portion of its profits from over-the-counter sales and takes donations from customers and employees for a local nonprofit organization, Cameron said.

“We decided we really wanted to focus on the community,” Cameron said.

The Home Fund is the annual December charity of the month, Cameron said.

In 2014, the pharmacy raised $1,043.28 for the Home Fund, and in 2013 the donation was $904.04.

“Jim’s is all about helping the community out,” said Lisa Jorgensen, chief operating officer at Jim’s.

[Home Fund] is just a good organization for people who need a hand up, to get them started, Jorgensen said.

“If we can help someone get into a home, we’ll try,” she said.

Shop Locally

Jim’s Shop Locally program has operated for the seven years. It rotates local nonprofits monthly to give all deserving charities a chance to raise funds and sometimes adds fun activities.

Four months each year, the pharmacy adds a topper — a special fundraising activity.

“We hit it hard four times a year,” Cameron said.

She said in those months, employees find a way to raise more money for the charity the pharmacy is focusing on that month.

Among those activities in the past have been a pharmacist kissing a prairie dog, an employee may pay into the fund for a casual day or a day is offered to wear their professional athletic team’s gear.
