PORT ANGELES — Few people on the North Olympic Peninsula haven’t heard of Jim’s Pharmacy in Port Angeles.

Locally owned and operated at 424 E. Second St., Jim’s is holding a party to celebrate its 30 years in business.

The party — offering hot soups, cupcakes and other goodies from Toga’s Soup House Deli and Gourmet — takes place from noon to 3 p.m. Friday.

The celebration also will feature 30 percent off all items in its gift department and “Joe’s Bucks,” offering savings up to $30 on gift department purchases from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31.

Jim’s Pharmacy was founded in November 1983 by Jim and Barb Cammack.

After serving the local community for nearly 20 years, the owners passed the torch to their son, Joe, in March 2002.

Joe joined the staff while still in high school and later became a university-trained pharmacist, too.

His parents have remained active as community volunteers, and Jim is an elected Olympic Medical Center hospital commissioner.

Jim’s has a reputation for personalized service and support for the community.

Service, support

It has 34 employees, a licensed practical nurse on staff, a diabetic educator by appointment, prescription compounding to meet specialized needs, free deliveries in Port Angeles and Sequim, a complete home health care department with wheelchairs, hospital equipment and mastectomy and compression stocking fitters, two-lane drive-up windows, a free “Vitamins for Kids” program, scholarships to local high school students and “Shop With Loyalty Shop Locally” monthly donations to nonprofit groups.

It has been a leader in community fundraisers from Festival of Trees to Arts in Action.

Jim’s Pharmacy was named one of two recipients of the statewide 2012 Corporations for Communities Award from the state Secretary of State’s Office.

The award honors businesses for outstanding work improving their communities through fundraisers and other programs.

The award made particular note of Jim’s “Vitamins for Kids” program.

Families of any financial situation can get a free month’s supply of children’s vitamins once a month.

The program has served about 700 children.

“I’d like to thank all of our current and past employees for helping make Jim’s Pharmacy a success,” said Joe Cammack.

“Thanks to all of your efforts, Jim’s has been able to provide great health care to area residents and has been able to help out multiple community organizations.”
