PORT HADLOCK — Imagine hosting your own radio show or posting a video on the Internet that can be viewed throughout the world.
Washington State University Learning Center is making it possible for residents interested in participating in the changing face of mass communication.
“We’re entering an era of the citizen journalist,” said Robert Force, coordinator at the Learning Center.
“We’re at the first tick of the clock. I consider it as much an explosive change to human perception as the printing press.”
As an example of the power of citizen media, Force cites the video footage of the 1991 Rodney King beating in Los Angeles.
“That video took six hours to get out to the public,” Force said.
“The whole process can now be shrunk down to six minutes. The implications are staggering.”
Although the Learning Center, 201 W. Patison St., does not yet offer specific courses on how to “podcast,” Force said anyone interested can show up to the center and receive instructions.
