Officials from United Good Neighbors of Jefferson County say their annual fund-raising campaign has collected about $122,000 so far this year.
That’s slightly more than half of the $240,000 the agency hopes to raise in contributions by the first of the year.
“We’re behind slightly, but we haven’t heard from some big donors yet,” said Bob Peden, manager of United Good Neighbors of Jefferson County.
Peden is optimistic the agency will reach its goal.
Peden said the agency will hear next month from many organizations on whether they will take part in payroll deductions this year.
“We’re hoping it will come back from the impact of 9/11,” he said, attributing last year’s shortfall to the post-Sept. 11 economy.
