Jefferson County’s unemployment improved by a full percent in March, according to state Employment Security Department figures released Tuesday.
Jefferson’s jobless rate was 5.4 percent, down from 6.4 percent in February. Those compare with 6.8 percent in March 2004.
In Clallam County’s labor market area centered in Port Angeles-Sequim, the unemployment rate in March was 5.7 percent, a drop from February’s 6.5 percent. The March 2004 rate was 6.9 percent.
The statewide unemployment rate in March was 5.2 percent, the lowest figure in more than four years, Employment Security said. The rate matches the national unemployment rate of 5.2 percent, marking the first time in seven years that the state’s and nation’s rates matched.
