PORT HADLOCK — Jefferson County Rural Library District trustees hired Raymond Serebin as library director on Wednesday.
Serebin signed the contract, effective June 3, at the trustees’ annual breakfast meeting in the Humphrey Room of the Jefferson County Library.
“I want to work in a place where the community and the library are on a more human scale,” Serebin said.
Serebin, 54, previously served as director of neighborhood services for the Seattle Public Library and was in charge of 22 branch libraries and 285 employees.
Serebin was chosen from 38 applicants for the position, vacated when Bill Mitchell resigned in October.
“Serebin stood out because of his experience, his knowledge, his personality and his intelligence,” said Patience Rogge, trustee chairman and head of a search committee.
Serebin, who was raised in Seattle, said he has worked in libraries for 35 years.
