PORT TOWNSEND — Because of the public’s expectation for uninterrupted services and the potential for catastrophic disruption as demonstrated by Hurricane Katrina, Jefferson Transit will be holding a mock disaster response on Wednesday.
In an areawide disaster event, such as an earthquake, windstorm or wildfire, Jefferson Transit would make its assets available to provide relief as needed under the direction of Jefferson County’s Department of Emergency Management.
“But what happens if a disaster actually hits Jefferson Transit?” said Curtis Stacey, Transit’s programs administrator.
“If we lost part of Transit’s support services due to building collapse, for example, could we continue to place service on the road? How quickly could we recover?”
The drill will give personnel from various agencies a chance to build relationships and learn each others’ methods, he said.
