PORT TOWNSEND — Needing more information, Jefferson Transit board members on Tuesday delayed picking a new transit center site for two weeks.
Following a 30-minute closed-door session to discuss transit center real estate costs, board chairwoman and Port Townsend Mayor Catharine Robinson took a poll of the five-member board on each of 14 sites considered.
Board members, originally scheduled to make the site selection Tuesday, instead indicated they felt rushed and needed until a March 29 meeting to make a decision.
“There’s nothing more expensive than putting something in the wrong place,” board member and Jefferson County Commissioner Pat Rodgers said.
The board unanimously picked only one of four final sites — 10 acres at the northeast corner of Highway 20 and Four Corners Road, southwest of Jefferson County International Airport.
The site, board members agreed, would have the least environmental impact because it is not located near critical areas such as creeks or wetlands.
Other sites around the airport were questioned for possible environmental effects on wetlands.
