Jefferson Teen Center flourishes on donations

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson Teen Center, a nonprofit after-school program on the Chimacum High School campus that almost closed in 2018, has been upgraded.

Teens unveiled a new group mural at an end-of-the-school-year party June 13.

The party was focused on the two months of creating a group mural, and the upgrade of the center with support from the East Jefferson County Rotary Club Community District Grant 15, organizers said.

The grant supported three new computers, furniture including new folding tables, chairs, couches and shelving, ramp repairs, group clean ups, and healthy snacks.

The Jefferson Teen Center (JTC) was set to close for good in January 2018 because of a lack of funding.

A flood of community donations kept the center open for the 20-some youngsters from 12 to 18 years old that were using the center.

“The teen center is now thriving due to the continuous support of our community,” according to a press release.

The JTC continues to seek financially support and is seeking new board members and volunteers for new school year.
