PORT HADLOCK — Jefferson County Public Utility District Commissioner David Sullivan, a candidate for county commissioner, received a stern warning about state campaign laws from fellow PUD board member Wayne King Wednesday night.
King said he was upset to find pamphlets promoting Sullivan’s partisan bid for the county post at the PUD booth last weekend at the Jefferson County Fair.
“This is a violation of campaign law,” King told Sullivan as the men sat across a table from each another.
Sullivan, a Cape George resident, is challenging Glen Huntingford, R-Chimacum, for the District 2 county commissioner spot.
The PUD post is a nonpartisan position, but Sullivan is running for county commissioner as a Democrat.
Placed under table
Sullivan said he was not campaigning at the PUD booth, and had put the pamphlets under a table for storage.
“I had them under the table, I was not handing them out,” he said.
“I had my name tag off. There was no partisanship at the PUD booth.”
King responded solemnly: “This does not look good. They should not be there.”
The third PUD commissioner, Dana Roberts, agreed.
“I was uncomfortable with it,” he said.
