PORT TOWNSEND — Laurie Medlicott’s jaw dropped and her eyes opened wide with surprise Sunday at the moment she was named Port Townsend’s Citizen of the Year for 2002.
“This community is amazing,” Medlicott, a volunteer at Fort Worden State Park, said after the ceremony. “I’ve got the coolest job in the world.”
Medlicott wasn’t the only one to win an award. Ninety-five people showed up at the Elks Lodge as the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce and local service groups also named Mike and Pat Kenna as Business Leaders of the Year for 2002.
Pat Kenna was in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was unable to attend the ceremony.
“She’s going to be pretty surprised by it,” said Mike Kenna.
