PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Kiwanis Club presented the first Thomas J. Majhan Teen Leader awards to eight Jefferson County teenagers on Sunday.
“Since this is the inaugural year, we decided to give them all awards,” said District Cout Judge Mark Huth, who was master of ceremonies for the presentation at the Elks Lodge.
All eight were nominated for the community service awards, named in honor of Majhan, a Superior Court judge who died Jan. 18 of cancer.
They are Erica Amico, 15, a sophomore at Port Townsend High School; Bethany Friedrich, 16, a sophomore at PTHS; Jenn Goldstein, 18, a senior at PTHS; Justin Grauberger, 15, a freshman at PTHS; Tracy Hayes, 18, a senior at PTHS; Kara Johnson, 17, a PTHS junior; Samantha Rae Locke, 16, a junior at Chimacum High School; and Ahmed Saleh, a student at Quilcene High School.
“Tom would be very proud to have this award named in his honor,” Huth said. “He was leader in the community and dedicated himself to leading in a quiet way. He particularly focused on young people.”
