State health officials are asking care providers to conserve their flu shot supplies — but the request may have come too late for Jefferson County, where the influenza vaccine stockpile is gone.
Jefferson General Hospital administered its last flu shot Monday, county officials said.
The situation is similar statewide.
The state Health Department shipped its last 102,000 doses to toddlers and at-risk children and their families this week, spokesman Donn Moyer said Wednesday.
Vaccine for more than 200 shots was available in Jefferson County, but the concern over this year’s flu bug brought people out in force to get vaccinated, according to Jefferson General Hospital Wellness Programs Director Nancy Schmidt.
