PORT TOWNSEND — Republican Jefferson County Commissioner Dan Titterness conceded defeat to Democrat Phil Johnson on Wednesday.
But fellow GOP Commissioner Glen Huntingford said he was hesitant to do the same until seeing more election results in his race against Democrat David Sullivan.
On the day after the first election returns that showed stunning leads by Johnson and Sullivan over the incumbents, it appeared that Jefferson County is headed toward a Democratic majority on the Board of Commissioners.
Titterness and Johnson discussed the transition and other community issues over lunch on Wednesday.
“I congratulated Phil,” Titterness said.
“I made him take me out to lunch today.”
Titterness said because of the “emotional factor,” he had not yet taken the time to fully analyze the general election results.
About 2,400 more ballots are due to be counted Friday, but the results are not expected to change.
In early Wednesday tallies posted by the County Auditor’s Office, Johnson was leading Titterness for the District 1 commissioner seat by a 59 percent to 41 percent margin.
Johnson had 8,368 votes, compared with Titterness’ 5,762.
In the District 2 race, Sullivan was leading Huntingford by about 54.5 percent to 45.5 percent — 7,709 votes to 6,420.
