PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County’s time machine is moving into a temporary new home.
The Jefferson County Historical Society Museum plans a grand opening at 11 a.m. Saturday to herald its new location on the second floor of the Kuhn Building, Water and Polk streets.
The opening ceremony, to which the public is invited, is also a celebration of the reason why the museum was moved — to restore the old City Hall to its glory days.
“The new museum is a compact, colorful and informative look at Jefferson County’s lively past,” said Bill Tennent, the historical society’s director.
A condensed version of the City Hall museum, the relocated version features 300 exhibit items that fill the Kuhn Building’s second floor, which has an interesting history in itself: It once was a dance studio and a bowling alley.
Hollywood exhibit
Besides the traditional Jefferson County historic time line, visitors can witness the “Port Townsend Goes Hollywood”: exhibit and a poster exposition on the annual Kinetic Skulpture Race.
“We are trying to get through with the idea that not everything ends today,” Tennent said.
The Hollywood exhibit features artifacts connected to five films, shot all or in part in Port Townsend or Jefferson County: “An Officer and A Gentleman,” “Enough,” “The Ring,” “The Caine Mutiny Court Martial” and “Snow Falling on Cedars”.
