More than 4,500 of 12,710 Jefferson County voters eligible to cast their ballot in today’s election have already done so by mail.
Residents in Port of Port Townsend District 1 (Port Townsend) and Jefferson County Commissioner District 3 (southeast and west sections of the county) who haven’t already cast their votes in two primary races can do so at the polls until 8 p.m.
Or absentee ballots can be deposited at the county courthouse in Port Townsend up to 8 p.m., or mailed in time to be postmarked today.
Voters in the two political districts are given a choice of candidates to narrow fields for the Nov. 4 general election.
Five candidates appear on the ballot for Port of Port Townsend commissioner.
Steve Brown, James “Bonzo” DeLeo, Bill Miller and Richard Wojt are vying to unseat incumbent Bob Sokol.
The top two vote-getters will move on to the general election.
Today’s other primary vote is for Jefferson County commissioner in the district that generally extends from Gardiner to Shine and south to the Mason County line.
Democrats Bob “Cougar” Garten of Shine and Mark B. Rose of Brinnon challenge each other today to face Pat Rodgers, R-Brinnon, in the general election.
