A vote tabulation machine is functioning again and will be counting primary election ballots again as early as 8 this morning, Jefferson County Auditor Donna Eldridge said Sunday night in Port Townsend.
Eldridge said about 2,700 ballots would be run through the machine today. She reported on Friday the machine was malfunctioning.
Eldridge said a new sensor was picked up in Port Orchard on Saturday, and with the help of a county information technology employee, the machine was cleaned and repaired.
“It was then reading fine,”‘ Eldridge said. “We knew right away when it wasn’t cooperating.”
The county auditor said the problem was similar to on about three years ago, and required diagnostic testing. The breakdown occurred after about 800 ballots were counted Friday.
