Kinetic kraziness kame to a klose Sunday night with a Port Townsend kraft konquering kompetitors and kollecting the koveted mediocrity award.
More than 25 home-made, self-powered vehicles negotiated mud, water, land — and for the first time, sand — during the 20th annual Port Townsend Bay Kinetic Skulpture Race.
More than a few vehicles needed a helping hand through the shoe-sucking mud and water of the Dismal Bog at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Phil Glerum of Port Townsend succesfully piloted The Big Toilet (No. 2) through the bog amid shouts of “go number two,” but the effort was clearly draining.
“I’m pooped,” he said after finishing the leg.
Monafly, a craft with 8-foot wheels and decorated with a 10-foot butterfly, was among those that needed a push.
“It was real slimy out there,” said driver Bob Durst of Oregon.
