PORT TOWNSEND — Building a new ferry dock outside Keystone harbor would provide for more consistent service on the Port Townsend-Keystone run, a feasibility study released Tuesday shows.
Washington State Ferries Planning Director Ray Deardorf will present the results of his study Thursday during a meeting of the North Sound Ferry Advisory Committee.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Pope Marine Building across from City Hall, 540 Water St. A meeting will be held in Coupeville on Nov. 20 to present the report to Whidbey Island residents.
“While there would still be some disruption of service due to wind and waves, it would significantly reduce the number of closures due to tide and current conditions,”‘ Deardorf said Tuesday of the possible relocation of the ferry terminal on Whidbey Island.
Low tides prompt officials to cancel an average of 95 ferry runs to the Keystone dock each year.
