BRINNON — A 20-year-old Brinnon Republican has announced his intention to run for the District No. 3 county commissioner seat in November.
Ivan Hjelvik, a newcomer to politics whose family has been a fixture in Brinnon since the 1870s, joins Derek Stacey Thompson of Chimacum and Pat Rodgers of Brinnon as candidates in the commissioners race.
Hjelvik, who is concerned about economic development, said he was motivated to enter the race by suggestions by other Brinnon residents.
Commissioner Richard Wojt is expected to retire from the District No. 3 spot after three terms in office.
