Bob Hinton, former Port Townsend Police Chief and Jefferson County Commissioner, announced his intention to run for Jefferson County Sheriff on Saturday.
Hinton, 62, announced his candidacy at the Jefferson County Republicans Lincoln Day Luncheon and Silent Auction after several weeks of speculation on whether he would enter the race.
Hinton spent 22 years with the Port Townsend Police Department, including 12 years as police chief, before retiring in 1991.
He was a county commissioner from 1993 to 1996, occupying the District No. 1 commissioner post.
