PORT TOWNSEND – The Jefferson County Public Hospital District 2 commissioners set a deadline of May 31 next year to prohibit smoking on all of the Jefferson Healthcare hospital grounds on Sheridan Street.
The five commissioners voted unanimously at Wednesday’s meeting to completely restrict cigarette smoking on hospital property, which would also include its satellite offices.
“I don’t view this as a way to make people quit smoking,” said Jill Buhler, hospital commission chairwoman.
“I view this as a health issue for nonsmokers.”
Commissioner Chuck Russell said he supported the measure.
“I am very much in agreement of a smoke-free campus.”
