PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County has been awarded a $60,000 grant to explore establishing an industrial land bank and to pull together data about the county that would be of interest to businesses considering relocating.
An industrial land bank is a zone outside the boundaries of a designated urban growth area where commercial and industrial activity is permitted.
“This is the next major project we need to complete in Jefferson County to help ensure our future economic vitality,” county Administrator John Fischbach said.
He said land near Jefferson County International Airport has been suggested as a possible site for an industrial land bank, but that those conducting the study will come to it with fresh eyes.
“The study calls for them to look at the whole county to see if there are any places for the industrial land bank,” Fischbach said.
“We going into it without preconceived notions.”
