Final-day candidate filings Friday will cause a Democratic primary election for county commissioner and a five-way nonpartisan challenge for Port of Port Townsend commissioner.
Incumbent Port Commissioner Bob Sokol said Saturday that it’s unusual for so many people to seek election to the Port of Port Townsend board.
County Auditor Donna Eldridge said Friday she doesn’t think there have been five candidates for a Port race in recent history.
Sokol, one of the five candidates, said he looks forward to debating with his challengers, and remains confident his qualifications will show him to be the most experienced candidate.
On Friday, long-time resident James “Bonzo” DeLeo and Steve Brown, a marine services employee, filed for Port commissioner.
They join retired aerospace consultant Bill Miller and former County Commissioner Richard Wojt in seeking the $2,400-a-year position.
