CHIMACUM — Jefferson County Democrats don’t have county commissioner candidates lined up yet, but party members agree on three presidential candidates.
Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts, garnered most of the 129 delegates at the county convention Saturday morning at Chimacum High School over two other candidates for the Democratic nomination.
Forty-seven delegates chose Kerry as their man.
Following the presumed nominee was Howard Dean with 44 delegates and Dennis J. Kucinich with 38.
Though supporters of Dean and Kucinich acknowledged that Kerry will undoubtedly have the national party’s support, they vowed to fight on to advance their candidates’ platforms.
Jefferson County will send 10 delegates to the state convention in Tacoma on June 5.
Four of those delegates will be committed to Kerry, and three each to Dean and Kucinich.
Saturday’s convention concentrated on the national election, and comments about President Bush drew either wild applause or boos from the 150 people in the auditorium, depending on the context of the reference.
