Hundreds of young musicians will usher in the winter holidays beginning this week in a series of holiday concerts — and a Christmas musical.
The concerts are free and open to the public, though donations are gratefully accepted to support music programs in the schools.
Jefferson County students will ring in the season with a series of concerts, beginning with the Port Townsend High School holiday concert Wednesday night.
The Port Townsend High School band and orchestra will perform in the first concert, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
Music will include a Mozart piece, traditional band music and traditional carols, performed by 60 members of the band and orchestra.
Senior Eamonn Clarke will perform a handbell solo, and there will be a surprise performance, said Kim Clarke, music instructor at Port Townsend High School.
Holiday concerts will continue at Blue Heron Middle School band and orchestra concerts.
The Blue Heron advanced band and orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10, and the beginning band and orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. on Dec. 17.
Chimacum High School will hold a band concert at 7 p.m., Dec. 18.
Chimacum Elementary School students will perform in a holiday musical, “One Magic Christmas,” 7 p.m. on Dec. 12 at Chimacum High School auditorium, 91 West Valley Road.
The musical will feature students from the third, fourth and fifth grades.
Quilcene School will not hold a holiday concert this year, and the date and time of Brinnon School’s concert is to be determined.
