PORT TOWNSEND — Two men were hurt in a hit-and-run wreck on South Discovery Road and one is under investigation for criminal charges, authorities said.
Neither the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office nor the county prosecuting attorney would release the names of those involved in the 1:39 p.m. Tuesday collision involving two vehicles, each containing only a driver.
“I know enough to say that there are some parts of the investigation that will take some time to figure out,” said Prosecuting Attorney Michael Haas.
“They will likely not release the names due to the potential for criminal charges as well.”
Both drivers — a 67-year-old man from Allen and a 70-year-old man from Port Townsend — were taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital, according to a news release from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.
Hospitals will not release conditions of patients without names.
One driver was arrested but was not in custody Wednesday, said Arthur Frank, chief criminal deputy for the Sheriff’s Office.
Frank said recommended charges of hit-and-run and vehicle assault have been sent to the prosecuting attorney’s office for review.
Firefighters who arrived at the wreck reported a pickup truck with extensive front-end damage driving north away from the crash.
At the scene in the 3600 block of South Discovery Road was a white Toyota Tacoma with significant rear-end damage, the fire department said, adding that the driver was taken to Jefferson Healthcare.
Deputies found a green Dodge Ram 1500 with heavy front-end damage at the intersection of Cape George Road and Nelsons Landing Road, the fire department said.
The driver was placed under arrest and transported to Jefferson Healthcare with head injuries, according to the fire department. Frank later confirmed that one driver was arrested.
Frank also declined to release the names of those involved in a separate two-vehicle wreck in Chimacum on Tuesday.
In that crash, an 86-year-old woman from Port Hadlock was taken to Jefferson Healthcare with reportedly minor injuries after a two-car accident at about 11:50 a.m., according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.
The woman, driving a Toyota Camry, attempted a left-hand turn onto Elkins Road and collided with a Volkswagen Eurovan driving northbound on Chimacum Road, the fire department said.
The fire department added that the woman’s car spun 180 degrees and partially blocked Chimacum Road.
The driver of the Eurovan, a 34-year-old man from Seattle, was uninjured, the fire department said.
The Chimacum wreck also is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
