Jefferson County Public Health names heroes

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County Public Health has announced its 2024 Public Health Heroes in celebration of National Public Health Week.

The awards honor people and organizations, nominated by the public, whose contributions play a vital role in creating a healthier and more resilient community for all.

“Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health” is the theme for National Public Health Week, which is April 1-7.

The following individuals and organizations are being honored as public health heroes:

• Tanya Barnett, for her leadership and advocacy in promoting mental health awareness and support services for vulnerable populations.

• Dr. Melinda Bower, for her medical expertise and compassionate care in addressing community health needs.

• Bailey Burkhartsmeier, for her innovative approaches to promoting healthy lifestyles and wellness initiatives among youth and families.

• Al Cairns, for his work in advancing solid waste programming and ensuring a safe and sustainable community.

• Cedarbrook Early Learning Center, for its commitment to creating a healthy and nurturing environment for young children and families.

• Jefferson County school-based health centers, for providing comprehensive healthcare services and support for student well-being within our schools.

• Chief Tim McKern, for his leadership and dedication to public safety and emergency preparedness in Jefferson County.

• OWL 360’s The Nest, for their efforts in promoting community resilience and mental wellness through innovative programs and services for youth.

• Shold Excavating, Inc., for their commitment to equity programs providing resources for property owners, ensuring the well-being of the community.
