Jefferson County law library board seeks public input

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Law Library Board is seeking public input regarding the composition and accessibility of resources available at the law library.

The library, which is located in the Superior Court, currently has hard copy subscriptions to the Revised Code of Washington and Washington case law as well as an online subscription to Westlaw hosted on a dedicated computer.

The board of trustees is interested in answers to several specific questions as well as any other input that the public cares to share.

The board’s questions include:

• Do you or anyone you know utilize the books available in the law library?

• Have you personally used the law library’s book collection?

• Would you utilize the resources more frequently if they were relocated to a different location? If so, where would you suggest?

• Do you or others you know make use of the law library’s computer terminal?

• How could the functionality of the law library’s computer terminal be enhanced?

• Do you have an opinion on discontinuing hard copy subscriptions in favor of maintaining access to online legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis?

The public is asked to respond by May 1 by emailing courtadmin@co.jefferson.wa.us.

Under RCW 27.24, counties with a population of 8,000 or more are required to maintain a public law library.

The library, although oriented to members of the legal profession, is open to all community members.
