Jefferson County Historical Society to honor historic preservation projects

Eleven awards noted on Saturday at Ajax Cafe

PORT HADLOCK — The Jefferson County Historical Society will honor the winners of 2022 Historic Preservation Awards in a ceremony on Saturday.

The ceremony will be at the Ajax Cafe, which is the recipient of the Mary P. Johnson Award, an annual award given since 1978 to a historic structure project that meets the Secretary of the Interior’s high standards for preservation, restoration and treatment.

The Ajax Café (Glaster House) renovation project will be honored with this highest award given by the Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS) at the cafe, 271 S. Water St. in Port Hadlock, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to the free event.

Ten other projects will receive certificates of merit.

Projects considered for certificates of merit include the documenting, protecting or restoring regional architecture, the preservation of sites from the recent past, anything promoting the protection of cultural heritage such as stories, traditions and language, or a project that shares the stories of often-underrepresented communities.
