PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Democrats will consider formal endorsements for the upcoming elections at the June general membership meeting Tuesday.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend.
The public is invited, but voting is limited to members of good standing or those who have recently been active.
Members who were active on or after June 22, 2008, can renew their membership and vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
Candidates may make a presentation to the group before endorsements are made. All candidates have been invited.
The voting membership will determine which races will be considered for endorsements.
A two-thirds vote of the membership is required for an official endorsement.
Endorsement of initiatives likely will occur after the primary election.

At the Jefferson County Precinct Committee Officer Nominating Convention in April, attendees decided to nominate the following in county races: Commissioner John Austin, Clerk Ruth Gordon, Sheriff Tony Hernandez, Assessor Jack Westerman and, for prosecuting attorney, Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Scott Rosekrans.
The precinct committee officer vote is an indication of the preferences of the group’s leaders.
At the precinct committee officers’ 24th Legislative District gathering in Port Angeles on May 22, the officers decided to nominate Clallam County Commissioner Steve Tharinger for the seat now held by retiring Rep. Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam, and incumbent Rep. Kevin Van De Wege, D-Sequim.
