High winds, heavy rains and fallen tree limbs on power lines wreaked havoc on Jefferson County much of Monday, causing several scattered power outages around the county.
“We’re back up and running,” said Puget Sound Energy spokesman Don McDaniel late Monday afternoon.
“We took care of the last of the small stuff between 3 and 4 p.m.”
McDaniel said the power company had three work crews of about 15 out repairing mostly weather-caused damage to power lines and other facilities.
Outages began between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Part of the outages were the result of crew members “taking down the circuit” to repair damaged power lines, said McDaniel.
Outages hit Jefferson County Courthouse and Port Townsend City Hall, officials said.
The county commissioners’ weekly meeting Monday morning was interrupted by a blackout.
A county employee was trapped for a few minutes in a darkened courthouse elevator, a security deputy said.
County roads and highways remained open despite fallen tree branches, authorities said.
A peak gust of 41 mph was logged at the courthouse weather station Monday, and winds of about 20 mph continued about 8:30 Monday night.
Ironically, calm conditions were reported Monday in Sequim and Port Angeles, where the day’s peak gust was only 6.4 mph, according to the Port Angeles Weather Cam near the Clallam County Courthouse.
