Wind gusts reaching speeds of more than 50 miles per hour — with sustained speeds of about 35 mph — knocked out power to about 3,000 people in Jefferson County on Wednesday.
About 1,300 Port Ludlow residents went without power for much of the day, said Dorothy Bracken, Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman.
Power was expected to remain out through the night and be restored sometime this morning, said Bob Hamlin, program manager for the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management.
The wind caused 19 reported separate outages throughout the county, said Bracken.
Dennis Smedsrud, another spokesman for Puget Sound Energy, said Puget Sound Energy Crews were out in full force working as fast as they could.
“As soon as we pick up one, something else has gone down,” said Smedsrud.
Throughout the Puget Sound Energy area, 100 crews were working to restore power Wednesday to the 100,000 customers districtwide who lost power, said Bracken.
Patches in Port Townsend experienced power outages, as did Gardiner-area homes.
Each of the 3,000 Millennium Digital Media Cablespeed Internet customers in Jefferson County lost Internet access Wednesday.
It was still down as of Wednesday evening.
