PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners Monday night unanimously approved a master-planned resort zoning designation for the 256-acre Brinnon-Pleasant Harbor destination resort and golf course.
The action clears the way for the developer to apply for construction and environmental permits.
The commissioners’ decision, made in the Superior Court room with about 75 in the audience, fell short for those who wanted a smaller proposal and more time be taken before a decision was made.
“Proponents of the resort have inaccurately characterized the Brinnon MPR [Master Planned Resort] Opposition Group as unwilling to accept change,” said Andrea Mitchell, group spokeswoman.
“The group’s official position is that we have asked that the size and intensity of the resort be reduced.”
She said the group’s position should not be viewed as obstructing development, but rather “a plea for careful planning.”
