PORT TOWNSEND — Centrum will receive about $30,000 less in state funding, but was spared cuts that would have trimmed education programs in the final version of the state budget.
“We are thrilled,” said Centrum Executive Director Carol Shiffman. “While we are taking a cut, it is less than we thought it would be six months ago.”
Schiffman acknowledges the work ahead to keep Centrum operating at full steam.
“We still must do active fund-raising because of these challenging economic times, but this puts us in a better place,” Schiffman said.
The $23.1 billion state budget for 2003-05 includes $170,000 for Centrum’s educational programs from the Office of the Superintendent for Public Instruction.
The money was included in the budget by the Senate and House of Representatives but wasn’t in Gov. Gary Locke’s original budget proposal.
