With quilt shows and tomahawk throws, parades and plays, Quilcene and Brinnon celebrated their history this weekend.
The two new Jefferson County events — the second Quilcene Heritage Day and inaugural Brinnon Shellfish Shindig — had a good turnout, organizers said.
Quilcene Heritage Day featured 5- and 10-kilometer walks, fiddlers, a quilt show, museum exhibits and other events.
Inside the Quilcene Presbyterian Church, where many of the events were centered, Kathy Such showed visitors a worn quilt made by a descendant who she says was related to Chief Seattle.
“Its a little worn, but it’s hanging in there,” she said.
Such, dressed in an elaborate Victorian outfit made with yards of fabric and a bustle, directed visitors to the more than 50 intricately designed quilts hanging on walls and over church pews.
