PORT LUDLOW — Deputies have taken a man into custody who is suspected of discharging a firearm during a domestic violence incident this afternoon.
According to Joe Nole, chief criminal deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Gary Munro was involved in a loud argument with his wife when her sister interrupted the dispute and the gun was discharged.
Munro left the premises in a rented maroon 2012 Nissan Ultima with California license plates and was at large when authorities were at the scene at 83 Timber Meadow Drive.
One of the deputies who left the crime scene spotted the car traveling on Oak Bay Road and called for backup before pulling Munro over.
There was about a five-minute standoff when Munro refused to leave the vehicle, Nole said. He eventually was taken into custody at around 7:20 p.m. and was transported to Jefferson County jail in Port Hadlock.
Nole said that original reports were of a shooting to the head of the woman, but the head injury was probably attributable to a blow from the gun.
Police did not identify the woman or her sister, who were both taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital.
A teenager was in the house at the time of the incident but was unharmed.
Both women had 5-year-old children who were not home at the time of the incident, Nole said.
Deputies met them at the school bus.
