PORT ANGELES — A Forks man was uninjured Tuesday when he lost control of a Jeep Grand Cherokee on an icy U.S. Highway 101 and crashed near Granny’s Cafe, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 officials said.
Firefighters found the 1998 Jeep on its side in a snow-covered ditch on the north side of the highway, Assistant Chief Mike DeRousie said.
The wreck was reported at 4:55 a.m. near Milepost 235 about 10 miles west of Port Angeles.
The driver, who was not identified, was standing beside the vehicle when firefighters arrived, DeRousie said. Medics determined that he was uninjured.
The driver was traveling eastbound as he headed to work at the Port Angeles Post Office when he lost control of the Jeep just west of Granny’s Cafe, DeRousie said.
There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
The Jeep sustained “very little damage” because it ended up in a snowbank, DeRousie said.
DeRousie added that the road conditions in Indian Valley were icy early Tuesday. He reminded drivers to be prepared for winter driving conditions.
Clallam County Fire District No. 2 covers 85 square miles outside the city of Port Angeles from Lake Sutherland to Deer Park.
