It’s in their DNA: Couple with family ties to popular Peninsula eateries open drive-through coffee stand

PORT ANGELES — Casey and Taria Nagler tapped into family tradition when they opened their new drive-though coffee stand/restaurant at 110 N. Lilac Ave., near the corner of U.S. Highway 101 and Larch Avenue in east Port Angeles.

It’s got the name of a tree — The Silver Spruce Coffee Co.

Casey’s parents, Mary and Billy Nagler, own The Oak Table Cafe in Sequim.

Casey’s older brother and sister along with their families run two restaurants, including a second Oak Table Cafe in Kingston and The Maple Counter in Walla Walla.

Casey’s aunt, Diane Nagler, has been a driving force in the Chestnut Cottage and the First Street Haven, both in Port Angeles.

“Silver Spruce Coffee Co. had a good ring to it,” Casey said.

He added: “We feel very fortunate to have both our families’ support and expertise. Our families are a huge help with this endeavor.”

Previously known as Trouble’s Brewing, the take-out was bought by the Sequim couple last April.

The Naglers remodeled it from stem to stern, opened to customers in June and held an official ribbon-cutting last week.

They built a covered area for the drive-through, added “live edge” spruce service counters and leaded glass windows and created a patio section with flower boxes and umbrellas for outdoor dining.

In addition to offering local coffee from Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co. of Sequim, their menu offers handcrafted foods including a variety of pitas.

“Our biscuits and gravy has been a hit; it’s a homemade Southern sausage gravy,” says Taria.

“We also have fresh-squeezed lemonade we make in-stand with homemade strawberry or raspberry compotes.

“He do high-quality teas from Barnes and Watson, and our fruit smoothies are 100 percent real fruit with no added preservatives, sugars or artificial colors. A few flavors are even organic.

“Our cups are really cool, too! They are a ripple wrap cup that are recyclable and have built in sleeves which cuts down on waste.”

Silver Spruce’s hours are Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
