It’s gusty, but no major damage reported

High wind ruffled some hairdos on Tuesday afternoon but caused no significant damage on the North Olympic Peninsula, emergency officials said.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca and Admiralty Inlet at 10:28 a.m. Tuesday. The advisory was removed at 5 p.m.

Bob Martin, Clallam County Department of Emergency Management program manager, said the reported winds in the 30 mph range are common this time of year in the eastern strait.

“I have not heard of any damage,” Martin said late Tuesday afternoon.

He said the winds “didn’t really reach a warning level” on Tuesday.

Puget Sound Energy, which provides electricity to most of East Jefferson County, reported no wind-related power outages.

“It doesn’t look like anything’s going on in that area,” Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman Nina Huang said.

Brief outage

Davis Proebstel, chief engineer for Clallam County Public Utility District No. 1, said high wind caused a 90-customer power outage from 1:49 to 2:35 p.m. in the Sequim area.

In order to remove a fallen limb from a power line, crews had to cut the power to Dungeness Estates, Proebstel said.

The other outages reported Tuesday were small and isolated.

“They have been mostly individual ones,” Proebstel said.

A cold front that moved through the region Tuesday morning was followed by a strong onshore flow, the weather service said.

Bob Hamlin, program manager for Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management, could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Nancy McDaniel, a spokeswoman in the department, said there were no reports of damage in Jefferson County on Tuesday.

“We have not heard of any damage,” she said.

McDaniel said emergency officials will be watching the weather closely today.

Rain is forecast for today in Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and Forks, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs are expected to top out in the mid-40s.
