PORT ANGELES — A healthy baby girl, Fiona Springer, was the first child to be born in Clallam County on Monday, arriving at 5:46 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
“It’s very sweet,” said Sierra Springer, Fiona’s mother. “Her original due date was Christmas so she still gets a holiday.”
The Springers, Jeremy, 28, and Sierra, 24, of Sequim have one 3-year-old daughter, Poppy.
Fiona was born Monday morning at 8 pounds, 7 ounces, though neither parent could recall how long the baby was.
Sierra Springer said the family was at the hospital for about two hours before the baby was born. They hope to be able to go home today.
Olympic Medical Center typically delivers more than 400 babies annually, the hospital said.
Jefferson Healthcare did not immediately respond to request for comment about the first baby born on New Year’s Day in Jefferson County.
