CHIMACUM — Internal Revenue Service officials have taken responsibility for an ordering mixup that sent Brian Lawson and his wife, Jackie, 24,000 2005 1040 informational tax booklets on Wednesday.
They are also conducting an internal audit to determine how the mistake occurred.
The Lawsons had ordered over the phone only one 2003 1040 tax instruction booklet.
An IRS official called the Lawsons on Friday.
“The IRS representative called and left her personal cell phone number and apologized profusely,” Brian said.
Arrangements were made to have the 12 boxes of booklets weighing 240 pounds shipped back to the IRS office in Illinois, where they originated, at no charge to the Lawsons.
