FORKS — The West End of Clallam County was without Internet and cellphone service from about 4 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian King said.
It was unknown Saturday what caused the blackout. Electrical power was not affected.
“We have not had any definitive answer as to why we were in the dark,” King said.
The outage affected customers west of Lake Crescent.
“It was the whole West End, really,” King said.
Some Internet-based phone lines were disrupted.
“We’re a pretty cellphone-reliant society,” said King, who did not know what company suffered the outage.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office opened the Emergency Operations Center as a precaution.
Law enforcement radios were not affected.
“We didn’t know if it was going to impact our radio communications or otherwise, so that’s why we activated the EOC,” county Undersheriff Ron Peregrin said.
“We still don’t know what caused the outage.”
