Instrument landing system delayed at Port Angeles airport

PORT ANGELES — The instrument landing system at William R. Fairchild International Airport, due to come back online today, won’t be activated until Friday, Airport Manager Jeff Robb said this evening.

The ILS system was to return to the airport Thursday after just over a month out of commission. The delay was because of an antenna problem, Robb said.

The landing system, which guides aircraft to the runway, was shut down while the Federal Aviation Administration upgraded its equipment.

It was taken offline on June 21, which resulted in at least 16 commercial airline flight cancellations. The FAA originally planned to have the ILS system back in service by Aug. 1.
