The state Department of Licensing is preparing to launch a new, modernized driver licensing system that will result in brief office closures and service disruptions in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
The first services expected to be affected by the system transition are DOL’s online services, including purchasing car tabs and driver’s license renewals. Disruptions are scheduled to begin Aug. 26 and continue through that weekend, according to a news release.
To avoid the rush leading up to the new system cutover, customers are encouraged to come in or go online in early August to complete their transactions, DOL said in the release.
To transition to the new system, driver and vehicle licensing services will be closed Friday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 3.
The closures include:
• Sequim: Sequim Licensing Depot, 649 W. Washington St., Suite 2.
• Port Angeles: Clallam County Courthouse, DOL, 223 E. 4th St., Suite 1.
• Forks: West End Vehicle Licensing, 192681 U.S. Highway 101.
• Port Townsend: Jefferson County Courthouse, Auditor’s Office, 1820 Jefferson St.; and Licensing Department, 2300 S. Park Ave.
For Jefferson County, vehicle licensing offices may remain open during the cutover, but will be unable to provide vehicle and vessel services, the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office said in a news release.

This is the second in a series of overhauls to DOL’s legacy systems, according to the release.
The first phase to update the vehicle licensing system was successfully completed in December 2016.
A third future phase is being planned to address the business and professional licensing systems, according to the release.
