JOYCE — A Port Angeles woman who was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Tuesday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision at state Highway 112 and Oxenford Road was upgraded to satisfactory condition on Thursday afternoon, according to hospital spokesman Brian Donohue.

Kathleen O. Craven, 64, had been listed in serious condition on Tuesday following the wreck, which shut down Highway 112 for about one and a half hours.

Richard T. Fisher, 63, of Port Angeles was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol while Craven was cited for failure to yield right of way, the State Patrol said.

The State Patrol said that Craven’s 2019 Subaru Outback was southbound on Oxenford Road approaching Highway 112 at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday while a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Fisher was westbound on 112 approaching Oxenford Road.

An uninvolved disabled vehicle was on the westbound shoulder of 112, obstructing Craven’s vision, the State Patrol said.

She tried turning left onto eastbound 112 in front of Fisher’s pickup truck and the truck struck Craven’s Outback, which came to rest facing the wrong way on the eastbound shoulder of 112, the State Patrol said.

Fisher’s pickup truck came to rest blocking the westbound lane.

Craven had to be cut out of her vehicle using a hydraulic saw.
