A giant military exercise involving thousands of Army personnel and hundreds of armored vehicles and trucks will arrive by water on the North Olympic Peninsula’s largest military reservation starting Saturday.
And Jefferson County law-enforcers are preparing for a potential traffic nightmare on highways through the Tri-Area and over to the Hood Canal Bridge, where the Joint Logistics Over the Shore, or JLOTS, maneuvers will be focused.
More than 700 Army trucks and armored vehicles will roll from Indian Island — where they have landed by water — and will convoy to Fort Lewis south of Tacoma for 10 days beginning Saturday.
Military officials say they hope to keep convoys at a steady pace as the Army’s Stryker Brigade Combat Team moves down state Highways 19 and 104, and across the floating bridge.
