PORT ANGELES — Icy conditions on U.S. Highway 101 caused a second crash in as many days near Lake Sutherland on Wednesday, Clallam County Fire District No. 2 officials said.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue crews were called at 5:39 a.m. to a reported single-vehicle wreck near the Shadow Mountain RV Park, Assistant Chief Mike DeRousie said.
Firefighters found a 2000 Dodge Ram Van 3500 on its side in the ditch on the north side of the highway, DeRousie said.
The unidentified driver was standing beside the vehicle when crews arrived. He was uninjured, DeRousie said.
The fire department does not identify people involved in wrecks because of privacy concerns.
The man was traveling westbound when the van slid on the icy highway, rotated 180 degrees, landed in the ditch and rolled onto its side, DeRousie said.
Clallam Fire-Rescue responded with a medical unit, engine and command vehicle. The State Patrol and a towing company were also on scene, DeRousie said.
On Tuesday morning, a Forks driver who was heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 101 lost control of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and flipped onto its side near Granny’s Cafe. The driver in the Tuesday crash also was uninjured.
The wrecks occurred within three miles of each other.
DeRousie on Tuesday said the roads have been slick in Indian Valley and reminded drivers to be prepared for winter driving conditions.
