Signs of skin disease and upper respiratory problems were visible on the squirming, frightened cat in veterinarian Chuck Schramm’s hands.
The Persian was one of many he and two assistants had shaved and applied medication to Thursday morning — and there were more kitties on the way.
By Schramm’s count there were about 24 cats housed in a back room of the Clallam County Humane Society shelter, 2105 W. U.S. Highway 101, Port Angeles — all with similar problems.
“The sheriff’s office impounded them and some other cats for humane reasons,” he said while squeezing a gel-like substance into the cat’s ear.
“They came in really, really sick,” he said, “severe respiratory disease, eye infections, other cat diseases.
“We’re getting them cleaned up, attending to their medical needs.”
In total, Clallam County Sheriff’s Department’s animal control officers impounded more than 80 cats while executing search warrants Monday.
